My mom is a Big Talker in movies, and I took her to see The Last Jedi this last time around to hear her running commentary. Here are the spontaneous comments she made about Ben and Rey while watching unspoiled for the first time:

• (when the Force Bond stuff started happening) “What on earth?”
• (Ben’s facial expression after being called a murderous snake) *laugh* “Aw, that’s hurtful.”
• (“I know everything I need to know about you”) “Cause I think you’re cute.”
• (“you’re a monster”)”It’s Beauty and the Beast.”
• (when Ben and Rey were staring at each other after Snoke’s death) “Yes!!!! There should be a kiss here!”
• (Rey saves herself while Ben gets strangled by praetorian guard) “Now save your boyfriend!!”
• (when he said ‘please’) *heartbroken sigh*
• (when rey was making her decision) “Take his hand and convince him later!!”
• (when they tore the legacy saber in half) “They’re going to tear it in half. Oh, they really are two halves of a whole.”
• (during their last Force Skype session when Ben is kneeling)“Blow a kiss! Mess with his mind!”

(comments afterward:)

• “That’s just how all good romance novels start. You have two strong characters that strike sparks off each other don’t get along and don’t like it, Dark and Light, and then they realize they complete each other.”
• “If they need balance, and he’s dark and she’s light, then they need to stay together to balance it out.”
• (me: “I’m glad you saw it was romantic.”) “Well it was obvious. They weren’t really pussyfooting around that whole thing, I don’t think.”
