Hi Grace,! (Don’t know if you’ll see this but)So I’m a junior in high school and am planning on applying to different art colleges under any of these 3 majors, illustration/animation/character design. I was wondering, for your college what did you submit in your portfolio and are there any tips you could give on what to include? thank you!

Hi Anon!

I’m getting to my tumblr messages really late and I hope you’ve gotten your portfolio applications sorted out, but this is something that I couldn’t have given a ‘one for all’ answer to as every school has their own portfolio requirements which you can find on the school’s websites.
For those who may still be curious, Art Center has changed their portfolio specs since I had applied in 2011 so I can’t say that what I gave then would be the same for now.
The most I did to stand out was to submit extra work a bit past the minimum while maintaining technical quality and dropped in a couple of sketchbooks I had done into the portfolio as well. All I can recall was slaving through those portfolios for over a year and producing a number of pieces way past the max and then picking and choosing the best ones I had. (As I mentioned before you might not be able to do the same in today’s portfolios)

Grace
