if anyone ever wonders where i got my pedantic need for detailed background information, let me tell you a story:
my dad was in some online war-table roleplay group or another for historical military battles, and was in one conflict with a guy who told him “oh well i have an army of ten thousand and you only have one thousand men, so i win”
and my dad’s response was “what are they armed with?”
“spears and clubs and swords!”
my dad, whose army consisted of mongolian horsemen archers: “so, they’re unarmed,” because those weapons can’t REACH an archer before he can shoot them down.
then, “at two pounds of food a day per man, where are your rations? where’s your supply train? is it guarded? how are you getting water? are you sending scouts out to look for wells? are those scouts also essentially unarmed? what are your animals eating? can your animals survive on the grasses of the area like our ponies or do they need special feed, and where is that being kept?”
then, “what kind of spears are you using? what is their greatest range? our spears have a range of six feet farther than yours. you can’t even reach us.”
etc etc it went badly for the other guy and he got mad and on one hand i can’t blame him because it sounds like it’d be really annoying to be on the receiving end of that, but on the other hand lmao nice one dad.
