when ur reading fanfic and one character was cooking and the other comes up to them and they start making out and everyones like starting to take their shirts off and the author STILL hasnt mentioned anyone turning off the stove

Not every single thing the characters do is going to make it onto the page, folks. 

Just assume they turned the stove off until the author goes, “They were, of course, interrupted by the smoke alarm after a mere three minutes of coitus, as they had left the nachos under the broiler for a full half an hour by then and now their dinner was mirroring the flames of their passion, only in a literal and rather dangerous way.”
