Every single person is
“misgendered” at birth. We are told we must like blue and be masculine
(read: dominating) if we have penises, and that we must like pink and be
feminine (read: submissive) if we have vulvas. That is the true
“misgendering” going on here, and we actually have a word for it: sexism.

The word ‘misgendering’ tries to tell us that for anyone who comes to
accept sexism, which they have been coerced into performing and in many
cases forced to participate in, it was somehow innate and sexism is
natural. Those kids were “correctly” gendered, somehow. This is wildly
false.

Truly “breaking the gender binary” (read: gender
hierarchy) would be to get rid of this sexist behavioral hierarchy
called gender, and this has in large part been the work of feminism.
Now, we are told the new, hip, cool thing, that will be empowering for
women, is if we accept make-up, heels, and sexual objectification as
something we were born with (read: sexism), and therefore were
“correctly gendered.” That is the “misgendered” corollary, after all.

And feminists are here to tell you (as they have been) that no,
absolutely not. Girls and women have not been “correctly” gendered, we
have been forced into the box euphemistically called femininity.” – Charlie Rae
